Hawthorne’s Mischief at Bowdoin!

Abel Bates sent many of  us the fantastic article below.  This article was given to him by Hawthorne House member David Juhlin of Brunswick.  And thanks to  Dave! He is also responsible for making a replacement for the much needed but missing, lower Indian Shutter for our bathroom.  Again, thank you Dave.

Please enjoy reading the article below.  Abel wrote:

I hope you make time to read it. I found it interesting that besides Nathaniel’s  smoking, drinking and card playing, he was cited for excessive walking on the Sabbath Day.  Shame on him. No doubt he acquired these habits while living on the Cape. We, on the other hand, are just carrying on the tradition.

The article in The Times Record was written by Lori-Suzanne Dell.  She is better known as the author of Stories From Maine, a collection of incredible and interesting stories, which include the lore and legends usually omitted from history all told in narrative form.   And, her Hawthorne reflections are found in Stories From Maine II: The Legends Continue.
