Buy A Brick ~ Create a Legacy ~ FAQ’s, Frequently Asked Questions

The Hawthorne House Pop-up Kitchen Fundraiser is ON!

Frequently Asked Questions – FAQ’s

There has been strong interest in the Buy-a-Brick pop-up fundraiser, which is wonderful.  Some questions arose and for everyone’s benefit I will print the questions and answers here.  Continue to ask questions if need be.  We are here to help.

Some Questions and Answers

Q. Can I add an image such as a dog paw to memorialize our beloved family pet?
A: Yes. The engraver can do simple graphics like paw prints, hearts, crosses, etc.  The graphic  can be any size as long as it fits on the brick.

Q. I’m confused.  Is this online or do I need to mail something?

A;  The request form has to be filled out by hand.  You can download it HERE.   Please print it and fill it out by hand.  Then, you may snail mail it to us or you may scan it and email it to us. Both addresses are below.

For payment you may snail mail a check to us or you may pay online by clicking HERE.

Snail mail address:  The Hawthorne Community Association,  P.O. Box 185 South Casco, ME 04077.

Q: Do you have plans yet for the new kitchen?
A: We have clear drawings of what the new kitchen layout will be.  We are speaking with a few tried and true Hawthorne House contractors and we are confident that if the ‘buy-a-brick-build-a-kitchen’ can raise $12,000, we will have enough to make the project a reality.

Q: How much will the improvements cost?
A: We are hoping the renovation won’t cost more than $12,000. We are confident that friends and members can invest in 40 bricks and the project would be in great shape!

Q: When does construction start?
A: The Hawthorne guys are already planning on the demolition in February.  We hope that it will be completed by April/May in time for the exciting spring and summer events.

Q:  What are you planning to do with the bricks?   Will you somehow incorporate them into a wall in the kitchen or elsewhere in the House? Or will you use them to build a path somewhere on the premises?
A: The bricks cannot replace or re-furbish the bricks in the existing walkway because those bricks are mortared in.  Because people want to renovate the granite stone that has an eloquent Hawthorne quote, the bricks may be used to create a quiet space around that stone.  A display has also been discussed, but because they are real bricks, the presentation may be more meaningful and picturesque outside.
