At the Hawthorne House – Primo Cubano-Maine Made Cuban Music-August 28th 7:00 pm. 

Primo Cubano plays traditional Cuban dance music dating back to the turn of the 20th Century.  Son is the most popular style to come out of Cuba and is the primary contributor to the blend of Latin styles today known as Salsa.  It was first a music of the country people and eventually migrated to Havana, where it was urbanized and began to draw a wider audience.

Admission is $25.

Roosevelt Trail Maine History Tour Set for Saturday, September 6, 2025
Self-Guided Day of Open Houses from Westbrook to Harrison Along Route 302

Westbrook–Harrison, ME – All people interested or passionate about the history of Maine’s communities are invited to explore a portion of Maine’s western corridor during the first annual Roosevelt Trail Maine History Tour, taking place Saturday, September 6, 2025, from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. This free, self-guided event highlights the rich heritage of a portion of Route 302—also known as the Roosevelt Trail—stretching from Westbrook and Harrison.

Local historical societies, museums, and landmark sites along the trail will host open houses, guided tours, and offer light refreshments. Visitors may choose to stop at any or all participating sites in any order. A downloadable map and brochure will be available at   https://tinyurl.com/yeppjd5s

BEGINNERS WATERCOLOR WORKSHOP!  Join in!

Have you always wanted to learn the art of watercolor painting? Or do you want to brush up on your skills? Suitable for any skill level, Kathleen Gerdes’ watercolor workshop is coming to Nathaniel Hawthorne’s Boyhood Home  on Monday, June 30th, from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. Cost is $45 per student, which includes the use of the instructor’s supplies and materials.
 
Everyone wishing to participate is asked to please register in advance by emailing workshop instructor Kathleen Gerdes at gerkat214@gmail.com.
 
Designed to be a fun, stress-free community experience among fellow artists, Ms. Gerdes’ workshop will cover, step-by-step, what each student needs to know about paints, brushes, paper, and basic watercolor skills and techniques. Plenty of time will be offered to practice what you learn, and each student will leave with his or her own painting, along with the knowledge and skills needed to continue painting at home.
 
Kathleen is a local artist, who lives in Naples.   She has been painting for over 20 years and is mostly self taught. Kathleen believes that everyone is an artist and her love of teaching reflects that.  Her work is unique and whimsical and she loves to paint everyday objects that have lots of color.  Currently, she teaches watercolor classes at Scarborough Adult Education but she hopes to expand and share her work in the Naples, Raymond and Bridgton area.
